The Ones We Love Shooting: 18th Birthday Edition

There are shoots we show up to with our cameras ready, and then there are shoots we show up to with our cameras ready and a quiet kind of excitement that is hard to explain to someone who hasn’t felt it. 🎂📸 The 18th birthday is one of those.
At Vivid Focus Photography, we have shot a lot of events. Corporate galas, weddings, community celebrations, you name it. But something about an 18th birthday consistently reminds us why we got into Event Photography in the first place. It is not the decorations, though they are often stunning. It is not the venue. It is the people in the room and the weight that the night carries for everyone there.

The Hardest Part of Event Photography Nobody Talks About

Nobody gets into Event Photography because they want to disappoint people. 📷
But it happens. A client opens their gallery and the excitement you hoped they’d feel just… isn’t there. Maybe the lighting in the venue worked against you. Maybe they had a vision in their head that lived somewhere between what was possible and what was real. Maybe the day moved faster than anyone expected and key moments slipped by. Whatever the reason, the message comes in, and the energy is flat or, worse, frustrated.
This is the part nobody really talks about.

She Almost Cancelled. Here’s What Happened When She Didn’t (A fictional tale)

What follows is a fictional story, but the feelings behind it are ones we hear all the time. This is our “what would we do” answer.

She had typed the cancellation message three times. Three times she deleted it. The morning of the shoot, she sat in her car in the parking lot for eleven minutes before finally walking in.
